Indian carpet design 'Kashmir'created by Mala Handicrafts and sold by Mala Carpets |
It is hard to know what inspired the naming of this carpet, Kashmir, apart from the flowers which are in abundance in this lovely country. The design is inspired by carpets woven during the Mogul period. Unlike most oriental carpet designs (other than prayer mats) the pattern is laid out in one direction. Most designs, particularly for larger carpets, will repeat in each half. The carpet is woven in hand spun Indian wool and the ends are finished with a short kelim incorporating the colours of the Indian flag and tea dyed. |
